Anna Gitelman is a designer, architect, urbanist, innovator, and educator. Her professional and pedagogical interests are concerned with the overlaps and intersections between architecture, art, place, and the interior; and, her scholarship draws on the archeology and anthropology of urban spaces and strategies that allow places, buildings, and interiors to adapt and transform over time.   Anna is an Associate Professor in the Department of Art and Design at Suffolk University. She has been the recipient of national grants to integrate practice, education, lighting design, and sustainability principles into Suffolk’s graduate and undergraduate interior architecture curriculum. Anna established innovative academic programs including collaborative courses with the Engineering Department at CAS and the Suffolk Business School. She developed BFA and MAIA comprehensive design studios and teaches extensively in the realm of analytical representation and drawing. She spearheaded a new study abroad program in Madrid, Spain, and developed a curriculum to provide students access to global learning opportunities and experiential learning.  Anna is a founding principal of the Boston-based architecture firm zvzgstudio. The studio is a laboratory dedicated to researching issues of globalism, technology, and materiality through the built form. Balancing education, practice, and research, the office explores an innovative approach to the architecture and design of urban environments and the technologies that build them. Anna is a member of several professional organizations, a speaker at various architectural and interior design forums and conferences, and a member of the jury for several national and international competitions. She is an active member of the Interior Design Educators Council and served as East Regional Chair during 2021-2023. Anna created the Elemental Design Lab to explore the value that academic research brings to design practice, identify knowledge gaps, and develop effective means to advance this research. Her goal is to offer valuable insights that may reshape conventional understandings of the recognized production and accountability structures supporting creative endeavors. Anna holds a Master of Design Studies from the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University and BArch and MArch degree from Moscow Architectural Institute.
